Fleeting Temples

James Madison university | December 2019

Created for the Virginia Repertory Dance Ensemble at James Madison University, Fleeting Temples explores the ways relationships are built, sustained, and transformed through everyday acts of reaching, supporting, yielding, and letting go. Inspired in part by Danusha Laméris's poem Small Kindnesses, the choreography reflects on the temporary structures we build together and the quiet gestures of care that sustain them.

I live and work on the ancestral lands of the Monacan Indian Nation, a Siouan-speaking tribe of the piedmont and mountain regions of Virginia. These lands were occupied by a government that also enslaved Africans and African Americans, and the legacy of this oppression continues to impact Black and Indigenous peoples today.
